Addressing Efficiency Gaps in VCU Installation and Removal

As pure electric vehicles become the mainstream choice for urban transit, the vehicle control unit (VCU) plays a critical role as the central command center. It collects driver inputs—accelerator pedal, brake pedal, gear selection, key switch, cruise control—and communicates with the motor controller, battery management system, and intelligent instrument cluster via CAN bus to ensure safe and reliable operation.

However, conventional VCUs often use screw-based mounting for control boards, making installation and removal time-consuming and labor-intensive. This inefficiency not only burdens service personnel but also reduces overall productivity in vehicle manufacturing and maintenance.

To solve these challenges, the Tenglong Automotive engineering team has developed an intelligent VCU featuring a novel quick-mount fixing device for pure electric city buses.


Engineering Excellence: Rapid Mounting and Secure Fixation

The RD05 project introduces several practical technical features designed for ease of use and reliability:

▪ Quick-Mount Fixing Mechanism: A fixing box is attached to the top of the charging control platform, with a locking device integrated into one side of the inner wall. A sliding rod and fixed plate structure enables rapid installation and removal of the control board, significantly reducing labor burden and saving time.

▪ Dual Securing System: An extruding device—comprising a fixed block, an electric telescopic rod, a moving block, and an extruding plate—works in tandem with clamping devices mounted on support plates on both sides of the fixing box. This dual mechanism ensures the control board remains firmly in place, preventing unwanted movement.

▪Robust Torque Management Strategy: The controller incorporates multiple hardware anti-interference designs and implements a tailored torque management control strategy for different driving modes, addressing limitations in current domestic VCU research that often overlook motor and battery performance parameters.


Intellectual Property and Project Outcomes

The project has successfully been granted a national utility model patent: "A Fixing Device for an Intelligent AC Charging Control Board for Electric Vehicles" (Patent No. ZL201721904441.X). The device enables quick and simple fixation of the control board while allowing easy disassembly, improving work efficiency and making the control board more convenient to install and use.

The final evaluation committee—led by General Manager Ye Lizhang—concluded that the project has met all technical indicators, enhancing both vehicle safety and comfort through superior control system functionality.
